How should Melbourne look, feel, develop? The answers to these questions, and many others, will be explored during the State of Design Festival. There will be films, speeches and exhibitions on different themes – from innovative furniture designs and eco-friendly cubby houses to a pop-up library.
I am keen to participate in ‘Art for Feet’, which allows participants to customise a pair of boots. Oh yes please!! The event is free. It is also in keeping with this year’s State of Design theme: design that moves!
As part of the Festival, there will be a late night platform at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art – it is a forum for public discussion within the exhibition Nathan Coley: Appearances. The program looks stimulating, and includes a live recording of Triple R’s ‘The Architects’ program.
The Festival is from 20-31 July 2011. Events and exhibitions take place at a range of venues, both in the city and beyond. Most events are free. You need to book into some beforehand. http://www.stateofdesign.com.au
